Safety Conditions
- Crime
- Mexico is among the ten countries with the highest crime because of the corruption in its legal system.
There is a high degree of violence in the poor areas and in the bad reputation neighborhoods located in the major cities.
The most frequent crime is armed robbery. In the last few years, there have been cases of kidnapping and murder (policemen, military men and government officials in particular).
- Terrorist Risk
-
Even though there are not terrorist groups known in the country, the Mexican drug cartels have a strong relationship with international drug dealers and organized crime. During the last months, some cases of individual and collective murders have been committed in the major cities.
- Risk of Natural Disaster
-
Average magnitude earthquakes happen frequently in the southeast of the Mexican territory.
During the summer season, there are tropical storms in the Mexican coast, especially in the Mexican Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico, which produce serious damage to the population and commerce.
- Traveling Women Conditions
-
Women traveling alone can be subject to verbal harassment, especially in the popular areas. A woman should avoid traveling alone and at night.
